Medusa’s Justice
Medusa, an Ancient Greek mythological figure, has stood the test of time, yet her past is debated. With various storytellers, her story is bound to be confused. The common denominator in these stories is that her sexual assault resulted in her infamous snake hair given to her by Athena, either as punishment or protection. This hair turns anyone who looks at her eyes into stone, which leads to Medusa’s isolation. But what if someone could not be affected by her hair? Someone who could look her in the eyes and still breathe? A blind partner, perhaps? Exploring the idea of sexual assault and how prevalent it has been since the dawn of time. The symbolism of the eye represents survivors who have been turned to ‘stone’. Medusa’s Justice represents the extent that sexual harassment is prevalent but provides hope of peace to victims.
