Not so Social Media
My artwork captures the challenges of social media. Instagram portrays the ideas of ‘perfection’ associated with someone’s everyday activities. I wanted to explore the typical way someone’s expectations intersect with the reality of the world. To illuminate my ideas, I have utilised Photoshop to create an Instagram post showing both the expectation and unfiltered reality. Instagram posts connect with the audience in different ways and allow viewers to respond directly and immediately. These responses can be unfiltered, honest or cruel. Audiences respond to the image and how it relates and affects them. I feel that people my age tend to associate themselves the most with Instagram and feel they need to be perfect to have a good life, although that is not true.
