The Last Supperior
I was born and raised in the international metropolis of Shanghai. I came to Sydney, a city that has a slightly different definition of faith, to be an international student at a young age. This experience has helped me gain a broader vision of religions and beliefs. However, since many unfortunate things happened last year, this vision also made me overloaded and blurred by realising there are still many cultures that think they are superior. Therefore, I made The Last Supperior that follows the composition of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper by manipulating wasted or natural materials behind a lightbox to imitate traditional Chinese painting, which is deeply influenced by Xu Bing’s Background Story. By arranging the thirteen representatives of different religions and beliefs at a table, I want to convey a message of hope. What seems to be chaotic can also harmoniously coexist in this world, so we should not judge people based on the conventional categories, such as cultural groups, religions and beliefs.
