Niedojrzały (Immature)
My video work Niedojrzały (Immature), explores the strength of childhood innocence in the face of adversity. As a child, my great-grandmother experienced World War II first-hand, yet her story is not an unfortunate one. Through her ability to see the good in people despite race, gender, political orientation and class, she sheltered herself from the persecution many others experienced. Similarly, growing up in Western Sydney suburbia, I was oblivious to what made me different and not accepted into certain social circles. Navigating this as I grew older made me understand the true strength it requires to validate your actions. It was in this comparison that I marvelled at the perceived immaturity and resilience of a child.
